Social Blade audit

For the purpose of this guide, I am going to audit an Instagram account so we can see and interpret the data it generates. There are a few vital information which gives a clearer picture on how well that account is performing and the chances of being suited to the brand or product you wish to promote.

Step One

Go to socialblade.com or click here

Change the social network from YouTube which is the default, to Instagram. Choose the Instagram account to audit and make sure to get the right Instagram handle to audit.

What to look out for

While carrying out this process of audit with social blade, the most important data to look out for are as follows;

social blade

  • Engagement Rate; This is about how often people react, like or drop comments on a particular account online. Have in mind that the more followers, the smaller the engagement rate, as accounts with millions of followers hardly go above 5%
  • Followers; Of course, to consider an Instagram account for this or any kind of project, it should have at least 10,000 followers.
  • Average Likes and Comments; Well, the goal is to get engagement right? Hence the need to target accounts that generate massive engagements in the form of likes, comments and shares where applicable.
  • Followers Growth; Instagram prefer organic growth, that is a given. To find out how organic their growth is, the graph should take on a  natural flow, and not a sudden upward spike. For instance, moving from 12k followers to 120k followers in a day.

For YouTube

social blade is used for a variety of audits, one being that of YouTube channels. For instance, to check out the most visited YouTube channels in channels or the most popular, check the steps below

Step One

Before we begin, ensure the search bar is set to YouTube. Click on ‘top lists’ then choose ‘top 250 from US’

Do not worry, Nigeria is not immediately listed, but we will find a way to redirect our search back to Nigeria.

Step Two

Scroll down to ‘Top 250 by Country’ then choose Nigeria. Once you do that, the top ranking YouTube channels would be displayed. From the list, you would be able to see the top performing YouTube channels by Nigerians  from the last 30 days

In conclusion

Social blade can be used to audit the above listed social media platforms and get real time results about accounts on those platforms. The results show the level of engagement which an account has and how organic their growth has been amongst other things.
